Here is our living room, and outside you can see the balcony. This is the only room that got damaged.

Oh, man. I'm really glad the damage wasn't much worse.

I was surprised, though. All this time I was thinking that it was a stand-alone dwelling.

I know the living room coulda been worse, but it looks like the hallways will preclude rental income for who know's how long. I hate to sound greedy and heartless and selfish, but,is that so, or could guests just pick their way through the rubble to your place? And pay big bucks to see up close the disaster they watched on teevee.

It turns out that guests that have pick through the rubble to get to your condo are apt to have a less-than-fantastic impression of the place when they decide where to stay next year. There is, of course, a dimishing value of returns on that thinking when you're not getting rental money for a while, but I can be more patient than most, I think, with respect to charging folks good money to stay there.

The good news is that if frees it up for the likes of me, so what the hell?

What's with the fish plates on the wall?

The fish plates came with the place, along with all of the other furnishings. It's very nautically themed, and a little busy, but I'm not inclined to make any drastic changes, particularly those that will cost money.

I expect that there will be gradual changes, and a few major ones dictated by hurricanes and the like.

I'd feel a lot sorrier for you all if most of these pictures didn't remind me a bit of, well, my house *after* the refurbishing. We have a picture of Buddy lying on the basement floor; it looks like a ransom photo from some creepy warehouse. I still love my house, though.
